What are the causes of foot problems?
- Wearing improper shoes, either too tight or too loose.
- Wearing very high and/or narrow heels that disturb the balance of the body.
- Wearing tight socks, stockings, etc. made of synthetic material for a long period of time.
- Profuse sweating and wearing synthetic footwear for prolongued periods of time.
- The most important cause of all foot problems is, believe it or not, our own negligence! Just as we take care of our other daily chores, we must learn to take care of our feet as part of our daily routine.
What are the common foot problems?
- Fungal and bacterial conditions such as athlete’s foot – This occurs due to wearing the same pair of shoes and socks continuously for a long time, which stimulates the growth of bacteria and fungi leading to dry skin, itching, redness and/or blisters.
- Corns and calluses – These are caused by pressure on the skin of the foot when the bones of the feet press against the shoe or when the toes rub against each other.
- Heel pain – This is a common problem faced by women and men who stand on their feet for a long time, and may get exacerbated due to wearing shoes with high heels and/or tight-fitting shoes.
- Toe Nail Infection – This occurs due to the nails not being cut properly and/or cleaned regularly. It may also be caused due to improper sterilization of pedicure equipment at spas and salons.
